It seems to be getting hotter every day lately. Everyone is starting to water their lawns more and more to keep them from turning brown. I do it as well! But, there are a lot of people that waste too much water. Let's go over a few things you can do to stop wasting water and still keep your lawn green.
#1 - Fix Broken Sprinklers If you have any
lawn sprinklers that are broken and just shooting water straight up, get them fixed as soon as possible. This is a great way to stop from wasting a lot of extra water. Sprinkler heads are pretty cheap, so get it fixed quickly!
#2 - Water in the MorningIf you wait to water your lawn until the afternoon or evening you're going to lose a lot of water to evaporation. And if you water your lawn too late in the day you run into the problem of your lawn staying wet longer than it should and growing fungus. This is why it's best to water your lawn in the morning!
#3 - Water InfrequentlyIf you water too regularly your lawn with have a very shallow root system. If you actually let it go into drought mode a little bit now and then your lawn will grow deeper roots and be stronger for it.
#4 - Watch for RainHow many times have you seen someone watering their lawn when it's raining? Talk about wasting water! If it rains consider that your lawn watering for the week. Don't worry about your regular schedule, just let the rain do what it's going to do.
I think that tips 1 and 4 are the ones that people need to pay more attention to. Fix any broken lawn sprinklers and don't water while it's raining or soon after. If you do these four things you'll have a great looking lawn and use less water. Which in the end just means that you will spend less on your water bill!
